Acoustic rocker John Mayer has bowed out of a series of concerts after suffering from "something next to my vocal cords called a granuloma," he said in statement released Friday.

Fall Concerts in Gardens opens
Local singer/guitarist Morgan Guthrie opened the fall series of the Concerts in the Gardens on Friday downtown in Tifton Gardens. The free weekly concerts, sponsored by The Tifton Gazette and Main Street Tifton, will continue at noon each Friday through October.
