1. Feast of Lanterns featuring Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band

It's been a busy year for Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band. Along with a touring sched- ule that'skept the band on the road 200 days a year, the group also signed a recording con tract andreleased "The Whole Fam Damnly" to a nationwide audience. The record debuted at No. 4 onBillboard's Blues Album chart. The roots blues trio performs at 8 p.m.

2. Alice Cooper with Cinder Road

Though Alice Cooper doesn't deliver the same level of shock he did early in his career, he stillrecords and tours for new and old fans alike. Cooper's 25th studio album, "Along Came a Spider,"hit stores in July. Early reviews of this tour report that Cooper's macabre stage props andtheatrics are still a huge part of the show.

3. Sleepy LaBeef with Mandy Marie & The Cool Hand Lukes

Calling Sleepy LaBeef's rockabilly and roots rock sound "throwback" would do a disservice to theartist's legacy. He was there when rock 'n' roll was invented. He began recording in the '50s andhas delivered rockabilly classics and hit country singles during his 50-plus-year career. He'sjoined by Indy's own rockabilly legends-in-the-making, Mandy Marie & the Cool Hand Lukes, for anight of raucous rock 'n' roll.

4. The Franchize CD release show

9 p.m. Aug. 21, $5, The Vogue, 6259 N College Ave. (317) 259-7029.

The Franchize, touring behind new album "6 vs. 6 Billion," blends hip-hop and rock in a way thatbrings out the best of both styles. Following this event, the group hits the road for a series ofshows in Southern California, culminating with a performance at the Playboy Mansion.

5. Fringe Festival outdoor stage opening

6 p.m. Aug. 22, free, Indianapolis Historic Fire Museum & Memorial, 748 Massachusetts Ave., www.indyfringe.org

IndyFringe 2008 fills theater spaces with cutting-edge performances starting Aug. 22. In additionto those shows, there's an outdoor stage featuring unique acts. Music rules the stage on openingnight, as Vermillion Lies, Playboy Psychonauts, Tonos Triad and Chambray Blue Jumpsuit kick offthe 10-day event.

6. Audio Reconnaissance showcase

10 p.m. Aug. 22, $6, Melody Inn, 3826 N. Illinois St. (317) 923-4707.

Local record label Audio Reconnaissance's focus on digital distribution and prolific outputencourages creativity from its roster. The label showcases several Audio Recon artists at thisevent, including Id Obelus, Justice League, Twin Monster, Merc Versus, 2 Mics and a Kit, Motifand Whois Louis.

7. Seven Mary Three w/ 650 North & Healing Sixes

9 p.m. Aug. 22, $22, Music Mill, 3720 E. 82nd St. (317) 841-1850.

We promise: There will be no math quiz given at this show, despite the number-laden names of thethree bands sharing the bill. Seven Mary Three won national attention with alt-rock singles"Cumbersome" and "Water's Edge." 650 North comes from the small town of Osgood, Ind., but hasperformed as far away as Poland, where it opened for Guns N' Roses. Indy rockers Healing Sixesrounds out the bill.

8. Music Builds Tour

A quartet of Christian-influenced acts -- Switchfoot, Third Day, Robert Randolph & the Family Bandand Jars of Clay -- are using this tour to benefit Habitat For Humanity chapters in 23 cities. Theconcert also features a second stage of musical acts.

9. Black Diamond Heavies with Shelby Kelly, The Wisebloods, Scotty Lust and the Two Timers

9 p.m. Aug. 22, Sam's Saloon, 1640 E. Prospect St.

Southern states have long been a breeding ground for soulful and wild music that's equallyinspired by gospel spirituality and the whispers of the devil. Nashville-based Black DiamondHeavies are inheritors of that sound. The drum and organ duo leaps with ease from soulful bluesto mad punk rock.

10. We Are Hex, Thin Fevers, Small Arms Fire

This week's edition of Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn features three area acts. We Are Hexdelivers noisy art rock. Thin Fevers brings a New Wave-influenced, aggressive dance punk sound.Small Arms Fire creates nervy songs fit for pogo dancing.
