The guitar/tuba/trombone/tap dancer combo brings one of the more intriguing lineups to stageevery time they perform, offering a fun and entertaining update to the days of vaudeville.The band celebrates the release of its latest CD, "Street Music," with this show. ProducerSteve Albini recorded and mixed the album.

2. Journey with Heart & Cheap Trick

It's been a long time since Journey, Heart or Cheap Trick has landed a single on the U.S. popcharts, yet the bands live on, thanks to classic rock radio and a regular rotation on TV andmovie soundtracks. Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'." earned a spot in pop culture history asit helped close down the TV series "The Sopranos." Expect to hear the greatest hits of allthree bands.

3. Chicago Afrobeat Project

Afrobeat combines the percussion-driven music of Africa with jazz, improv and funk to createa dynamic, restless sound. With a lineup that ranges from nine musicians to 13 members,including dancers and percussionists, this show promises to be a spectacle worth seeing.

4. Bridging the Gap featuring Mudkids, Twilight Sentinels, Grampall Jookabox

Most Indy shows find similar bands performing together. This show breaks that trend byplacing two of Indy's leading hip-hop acts on the same bill with a respected experimentalfolk act.

5. CAST!/Coryell, Auger, Sample Trio

Can musical talent be passed from generation to generation? This show makes a case for thetheory. CAST! features a trio of sons of legendary jazz musicians. Julian Coryell, son ofLarry Coryell, handles guitar duties. Karma Auger, son of keyboardist Brian Auger, drums.Nicklas Sample, son of pianist Joe Sample, plays bass. The group self-released its debutalbum earlier this year.

6. Benevento Russo Duo w/ Everthus the Deadbeats

The jazz-rock duo -- with Benevento's heavily affected organ sound, augmented by electronicsof his own design -- has found a dedicated audience in the jam band community. They're joinedby local pop experimentalists Everthus the Deadbeats for a night of music that flirts withthe fringes.

7. The Derek Trucks Band w/ Greyhounds

Super-guitarist Trucks is the nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks. He joinedhis uncle's band in 1999 and has been one of the Allman's guitarists ever since. Trucks alsoshows off his slide blues style of guitar playing in his own Derek Trucks Band, a group hefounded as a 12-year-old prodigy.

8. People vs. Radio, System & Station, Bella Fea

People vs. Radio bring the passion of both punk rock and hip-hop as it uses its music tocomment on personal and social conflicts. The group headlines a show that features Portland'sSystem & Station and North Carolina's Bella Fea.

9. Marmoset, Rooms, The Abner Trio, The Damwell Betters

An indie rock extravaganza hits the Melody Inn on Friday. Marmoset earned acclaim withalbums released on Bloomington-based Secretly Canadian Records. The group is due to deliverits latest release, "Record In Red" on Indy's Joyful Noise label later this month. Marmosetwill be joined by Abner Trio, along with Rooms and The Damwell Betters.

10. Cocoanut Grove Lounge Night feat. Tonos Triad

The first Sunday of every month, the Melody Inn transforms from a rock 'n' roll bar into agroovy cocktail lounge. This week, Cocoanut Grove Lounge Night features the Tonos Triad. Thetrio incorporates upright bass, classical guitar, accordion, makeshift drums and otherunusual instruments into its jazzy acoustic sound.
